Rain, Rain.... Don't Go Away!!
This particular blog's idea came to me just yesterday when it rained in Delhi, it isn't the monsoons, but well, it doesn't even rain fully on monsoons, so I guess this is what Delhi rains are. I'm staying in Delhi after long, almost after four years. I'd left Delhi for my college in Mumbai! So whenever I used to come to Delhi, it used to be a short stay of about 3-4 days, at max one week, and that too during festive offs. It was like my home had become my vacay stay.
So back in school-days, I used to hate rains. I could go to school in extreme winters with like 3 degrees Celsius but not when it would be raining. I used to hate the idea of dressing up in my school outfit, then load it with my school bag, a raincoat, an umbrella, and gumboots. And unlike in Mumbai, Delhi receives light to medium rainfall. So, during rainy days, I used to take a leave from school, terrorizing my parents that due to heavy rains, the roads would be wet, the driver wouldn't be able to see clearly, and there were a thousand other reasons. (Evil, I know)
Four years ago, when I changed my city for college, I landed up in Mumbai. Off all places- Mumbai!! The city for abundant rainfall. It can rain for four months straight in Mumbai. I believe the rain in Bombay stops to catch a breath and then starts showering again. Four years ago, my Mumbaikar friend told me "Aaj Barish Giregi". I was amused. I said listen "Baarish Hoti Hai" (it rains, rains don't fall). Okay! I accept that statement now. It doesn't rain in Mumbai. Nope, it's not the usual drill - drizzle> light rains > heavy rains> drizzle> end. No, no, no, it's not this. It's one minute sunny, and the next minute you'll be wet, head to toe. Because, yes, he was right, the rain did fall. 😂
So, back to the point, I came to a city with beaches that have abundant water already but receive even more on the roads during rains. And I who hated monsoons was now in love with them!! It's strange yet fascinating how in such a short period- barely three years, our liking for something changes. We accept what comes at us, and it somehow becomes a part of us. I guess that's what they call growth. Growing by learning how to adapt to changes!
Four years hence, thanks to the pandemic, I've been staying at home for almost an entire year now. But, I can't stop asking my parents one standard question, "Where are the monsoons, why isn't it raining, why is it just raining for such a short period?", Yes, I hated monsoons four years back.....
